A panelboard is an electrical distribution board that splits an electrical power feed into different circuits. It's also known as a distribution board or breaker panel.
What does a panelboard do? Receives power from a switchboard, Distributes power to individual circuits, Protects circuits from overloads and short circuits, and Safeguards electrical equipment and human life.
How is a panelboard structured?
- Typically consists of a back panel with the main breaker or main lugs
- Also has branch breakers or fusible switches that distribute power to individual circuits
- Is usually enclosed in a metal cabinet
- Is typically placed in or against a wall
